The Qualification

The Edexcel Level 2 Award in CCTV Operative (Public Space Surveillance) has been developed to meet the training and licensing requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA), which regulates the sector under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001.
Target Audience
The legislation requires that any person employed on a contract basis and operates CCTV equipment within a public space environment to provide real time security surveillance, must obtain an SIA licence. One of the criteria for licensing is the achievement of a level 2 qualification.
Course Content
This qualification is knowledge and skill based and covers:
-Roles and responsibilities of CCTV Public Space Surveillance (PSS) Operators
-Codes of practice, operational procedures and guidelines
-CCTV equipment and its operation
-Control Room communication and access control
-Legislation
-Dealing with incidents
-Surveillance techniques
-Fire and emergency procedures
-Health and Safety
Certification
Assessment will be by an externally set multiple choice examination consisting of 35 questions and a practical assessment in accordance with the assessment specifications set by the SIA.
Delegates must successfully complete both units to achieve the qualification unless they have grounds for exemption.
Course Duration
The training programme can be delivered over four consecutive days or flexible hours to suit individual client requirements.
Additional Information
The fines for working as a CCTV Operative for public space surveillance without an SIA licence are severe. You can be fined up to £5,000.00 and receive up to six months in prison.
The minimum age for access to the qualification is 18.
